What Our Clients Say
From first chords to elite tertiary pathways, students of all ages and abilities thrive in our studio.
“Before taking lessons with Ben, I found myself paralysed by over-information and unsure of the pathway forward.
Ben not only helped me clarify my vision but also showed me exactly how I could get there.
It’s rare to find a teacher who helps you develop from within — equipping you with the tools and understanding to eventually guide yourself.”
— Dennis V — 3rd year WAAPA student
Confidence & Musical Growth
“Ben has been a wonderful guitar teacher for our daughter over the past couple of years. She started as a complete beginner and has grown in confidence, musical understanding, and enjoyment of music. Ben builds a positive rapport with his students, and his patient, encouraging style makes learning fun and motivating.
— Lauren D.
“It has been a joy watching Harrison’s skills and confidence build to the point where he performed at a concert in front of an audience.”
— Ruth B.
Adult & Lifelong Learners
“I started learning the guitar in my mid-50s and over the past 7-years I have learned so much from Ben. In addition to his consummate skill as a musician, as a high school teacher, I can attest to his exceptional capabilities as an educator. His well contemplated approach works well with older learners like me as well as those who are younger. You could not get a better guitar teacher.”
— Andrew M.
Advanced & Professional Pathways
“Ben has been teaching my son guitar for around eight years now. This year, he gained entry into WAAPA to study a Bachelor of Contemporary Music on guitar. We thank Ben greatly for his contribution to my son's progress. But more than that, Ben has been a wonderful mentor during my son's teenage years. A truly wonderful influence for my son to check in with once a week.”
— D. Swan
“His guidance and support helped our child achieve first place in the state and third nationally in the Australian music competition (guitar category) in 2025.
Ben is a talented musician and a wonderful educator, and we would highly recommend him.”
“We strongly believe that due to Ben's tutelage, gentle guidance, and ongoing encouragement, Vivo managed to get into a highly competitive, gifted, and talented music programme through John Curtin College of the Arts.”
Vivo himself says, “He is very encouraging, he gives video demos for my practice at home, he explains how to play the songs very well, and he is kind.”
— Melissa B.

Semi-Private Guitar Programs
Learn Together. Grow Like a Musician.
Music isn’t meant to be learned in isolation.
In our semi-private program, students learn in small groups of up to six players — building real musicianship by playing with others from day one.
Groups are carefully structured by age and ability, ensuring every student progresses confidently and at the right pace.
Playing alongside other musicians develops essential skills that private lessons alone can’t fully replicate:
• Strong timing and rhythm
• Ensemble awareness and listening
• Musical communication
• Confidence performing
• Faster progress through shared learning
Students receive individual feedback within every session — while also gaining the invaluable experience of functioning within a musical environment.
A Distinctive Learning Approach
Rather than relying heavily on printed materials, lessons are reinforced through exclusive demonstration videos.
Students receive clear visual and aural references after sessions, allowing them to internalise material naturally — without the frustration of decoding sheet music.
The focus is simple: hear it, see it, absorb it, play it.
Over a term, students don’t just learn songs — they build fluency, confidence, and independent musicianship.
Each 75-minute session includes:
• Structured technical development
• Song-based learning
• Ensemble playing
• Individual feedback
• Exclusive video demonstrations and practice resources

Flexible Online Music Programs
Focused. Personalised. Structured.
For students seeking fully individualised instruction, Ben offers private online lessons tailored to your specific goals.
Whether refining technique, developing repertoire, preparing for auditions, or advancing musicianship, sessions are clear, structured, and progression-driven.
Each 60-minute lesson includes direct demonstration, technical correction, and guided development in real time.
Beyond the Live Lesson
Every online student receives a dedicated video demonstration following their lesson.
This is not just written feedback — it is a purpose-recorded video resource designed to support your practice between sessions.
You’ll receive:
• Clear visual demonstrations
• Accurate aural references
• Performance-tempo and slow breakdown examples
• Structured guidance on exactly what to practise
This eliminates guesswork and ensures that practice is efficient, focused, and aligned with your goals.
The aim is not just short-term improvement — but long-term clarity, independence, and deep internalisation of musical material.

Your Questions, Answered
Who are the group lessons for?
Our group lessons are primarily for adult students who want to learn in a focused, supportive environment. Groups are kept small (maximum six students) and organised by age and experience so everyone feels comfortable and challenged at the same time.
If you’re not sure where you’d fit, just get in touch — we’ll figure it out together.
Do I need experience before joining?
Not at all. Some students start as complete beginners. Others come in after learning from YouTube or having lessons elsewhere.
What matters most is a willingness to show up, practise consistently, and be part of a musical environment.
Why group lessons instead of private lessons?
Learning with others builds real musicianship. You develop timing, listening skills, confidence, and the ability to actually play with people, which is ultimately what music is about.
You still receive individual feedback in every session, but you also gain the energy and motivation that comes from learning alongside others.
How do students practise between lessons?
After each session, students receive demonstration videos that reinforce what we covered. These include clear visual examples and aural references, so there’s no confusion about what to practise.
The idea is simple: hear it, see it, internalise it, play it.
Practice should feel focused - not overwhelming.
What happens in an online private lesson?
Online lessons are one-to-one and fully tailored to your goals. During the session, you’ll receive live demonstration, feedback, and structured direction.
Afterwards, you’ll receive a personalised video demonstration to guide your practice during the week - so you’re never left guessing what to work on.
What do I need for online lessons?
A guitar, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone (laptop, tablet, or desktop). Nothing complicated - just a setup that allows clear communication.
How long are lessons?
Group lessons run for 75 minutes.
Online private lessons run for 60 minutes.
What are the lesson fees?
Semi-private group lessons are $65 per session.
Online private lessons are $100 per 60-minute session.
Can I reschedule if something comes up?
Of course, life happens, and we understand.
If you give at least 24 hours’ notice, we’ll arrange another time that works - at no extra cost. We aim to keep things consistent, but also reasonable and supportive :)
Are there opportunities to progress further?
Yes, some students simply want to enjoy playing music. Others aim for competitions, auditions, or tertiary pathways.
Wherever you’re headed, we’ll provide clear guidance and structure to help you get there.
How do I get started?
Send through an email enquiry, and we’ll have a conversation about goals, availability, and suitability.
Spots are limited to keep the learning environment focused and personal.
